ASSESSMENT
Studies indicate that assessments significantly influence learning and the educational process. At PPS, we incorporate a wide array of assessments that fulfil several objectives:
- For Learning: Providing insights to improve the teaching and learning experience.
- Of Learning: Gauging student progress and comprehension.
- As Learning: Informing the creation of customized learning plans for students.
Our school utilizes various assessment methods to evaluate both academic and foundational skills, ensuring each method is effectively matched to its intended purpose.
Pre-Primary & Primary School
At PPS, we are committed to nurturing young minds with a balanced blend of innovative global teaching practices and deep-rooted values. Our pre-primary curriculum draws inspiration from diverse methodologies, including those from Japan, to cultivate socially aware, compassionate, and globally responsible individuals. By integrating cultural sensitivity with modern educational techniques, we aim to shape children who are grounded in their values, connected to nature, and equipped to contribute positively to a peaceful and harmonious world.
- Holistic Development: We focus on both academic and personal growth, fostering well-rounded individuals.
- Collaborative Learning: Emphasis on teamwork encourages students to work together, learn from peers, and build strong interpersonal skills.
- Respect and Discipline: A structured learning environment instills respect, discipline, and a positive approach to learning.
- Moral Education: Values like honesty, empathy, and responsibility are woven into the curriculum to nurture socially conscious individuals.
- Engagement with Nature: Outdoor activities promote environmental awareness and physical well-being, grounding students in the importance of nature.
- Inquiry-Based Learning: Curiosity is encouraged, with students being guided to ask questions, explore deeply, and develop critical thinking.
- Cultural Appreciation: Exposure to diverse cultural practices broadens students’ perspectives and fosters respect for different traditions.
- Innovative Teaching Techniques: Our unique methods enhance student engagement, ensuring effective and enjoyable learning experiences.
This approach not only prepares children academically but also instils a strong sense of social and cultural awareness, grounding them in values that shape responsible, compassionate individuals.
Our assessment strategy is bifurcated into two types:
- Formative Assessment: This continuous assessment is interwoven with the learning process, providing information to plan the next stage of education. It helps teachers and students to identify existing knowledge and skills.
- Summative Assessment: Conducted twice a year, this assessment offers a clear understanding of students’ comprehension. It serves as the culmination of the teaching and learning process, allowing students to showcase their acquired knowledge and skills.
By integrating Japanese educational techniques and a robust assessment framework, PPS aims to foster a holistic learning environment that nurtures globally aware and responsible individuals.
Middle & Senior School
At PPS, our middle school assessment framework is meticulously designed to provide a comprehensive evaluation of student progress throughout the academic year. Our assessment process is divided into four key components:
- Pre Mid-Term Exam: This exam covers 30% of the syllabus and is conducted before the half-yearly examinations. It serves as an early indicator of student understanding and helps teachers and students identify areas that need further attention.
- Mid-Term Exam: Conducted around the end of September or the beginning of October, the mid-term exam covers 50% of the syllabus. This exam provides a substantial assessment of student learning at the halfway point of the academic year, enabling a thorough evaluation of their grasp on the curriculum.
- Post Mid-Term Exam: Covering the next 30% of the syllabus, the post mid-term exam is scheduled for the end of December or the beginning of January. This exam assesses the student’s progress and understanding of the material introduced after the mid-term exams, ensuring continued engagement with the curriculum.
- Annual Exam: The culmination of the academic year, the annual exam assesses 70% of the syllabus and is conducted at the end of the session. This comprehensive exam evaluates the students’ overall understanding and retention of the year’s curriculum, providing a clear picture of their academic development.
Board Examination Assessment
At PPS, we prepare our students for the crucial board examinations with a rigorous and structured assessment process, ensuring they are well-equipped to excel in their final evaluations.
Class 10 and 12 Board Examination Preparation
- Pre-Board Exams: These exams are conducted before the external examinations administered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Serving as a crucial indicator, they help gauge the readiness of students for the board examinations and provide valuable feedback for improvement.
- Assessment of Foundational Domains: We assess the foundational domains twice a year, with the results reported alongside scholastic performance.
- CBSE Board Exams: For Grade 10 & 12, the academic journey culminates with the board examinations conducted by CBSE. These exams are pivotal, as they mark the completion of the school education and are a significant milestone in the students’ academic careers.
Our comprehensive assessment strategy is designed to ensure that students are thoroughly prepared for their board examinations, with continuous support and feedback provided throughout the year. At PPS, we are committed to fostering academic excellence and holistic development, guiding our students to achieve their highest potential in the board exams and beyond.
